Our Kahuna passed away on Saturday, January 22, surrounded and supported by his family and friends near and far. Born March 9, 1955, Chris began his love of music at the age of three with the gift of a “Casper the Friendly Ghost” themed guitar. By fourteen he was a regular player in several bands, and by sixteen he was professionally teaching guitar at a music store in Orlando. In the years to come, this passion and dedication to his music will take Chris from Florida to Hawaii to Pennsylvania, sharing his gift with those lucky enough to be part of his journey.

Chris spent the early and mid-80s in Waikiki with “Sonya and the Revolution” “BMW” (Brittingham, Miles and Woford), and the “Swinging Johnsons.” It was also in Hawaii that Chris met his best friend, biggest fan and love of his life, Neala. After moving to Pennsylvania to pursue his musical pursuits, Chris began his 22-year career at the Robert M. Sides Family Music Center, managing their guitar/combo department and helping thousands of musicians achieve their musical dreams. Chris was a member of several bands in PA including “STRANGE DRINK” and the “BLIND CHITLIN KAHUNAS. Chris also continued his teaching, inspiring countless guitarists of all ages. He was a humble talent, generously shared, and his influence on the central Pennsylvania music scene will be remembered forever.

A man of great faith, Chris was a founder “Salon Member” of Cornerstone Faith Fellowship in Jersey Shore. He was instrumental in planting the church he called home, sharing his gift of music weekly. While his guitar riffs may not have sounded traditional, you can’t deny the spiritual stillness that grounded your soul when he played. There will always be a missed hug and an empty chair at Cornerstone, but we know he’s sitting at the table in heaven, and we’ll be hugging him again very soon.

Chris will be greatly missed by his family. His sweet and loving wife, Neala Bovard, his sons Zachary Bovard and Orion Bovard, his daughter Mojave Bovard (Colin Ohnmeiss), his grandchildren Atlas and Asher, his mother, Patricia Bovard, his sister Lisa Bovard, his brothers Bobby Bovard and Gill Bovard, and his uncle Tim.
