The Kern Valley Sun welcomes another new company to the valley, Mock Music.

Owners Trudy and Clyde Mock offer musical instrument sales/rentals, music lessons and gifts at their store, located at 5416 Lake Isabella Blvd.

Trudy Mock told the Kern Valley Sun she had given private music lessons in Santa Cruz County/Bay Area and then COVID-19 hit. To continue teaching despite the pandemic quarantine, Trudy said she started teaching online through Zoom.

However, a flash fire destroyed his and his family’s home (and music studio) in August 2020, forcing a change of plans.

“The fire swirled around us and we were almost unable to escape,” she said. “We walked through the flames to get out and got out with what we were wearing and our dogs.”

After a 16-month stay in a trailer, trying to put their lives back together, they moved to Lake Isabella in November 2021.

“The people of Lake Isabella have been super welcoming from day one,” she said. “We fell in love with the area and the people. This little store became available and we said, “There’s no music store nearby and this place needs one.”

Thus was born Mock Music, offering instruments for sale/rent, lessons, repairs and gift items. Currently, they offer violin, viola, fiddle, guitar, bass, piano, vocal, mandolin, and ukulele lessons. Soon, drums, brass, woodwind and banjo lessons. Group lessons also arrive at the end of autumn. The store is open Monday to Saturday from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m.
