ISHPEMING, MI – Laura Rose Woolard, 61, of Ishpeming Township, entered eternal life on Wednesday, February 9, 2022, at her home, surrounded by her loving husband and three daughters. She suffered a two-year battle with lung cancer and debilitating lymphedema.

Laura was born in Newberry, MI on April 28, 1960, the daughter of the late Jacqueline (Dudley) and Raymond Schaefer. She grew up in Lakefield Township and graduated from Newberry High School, Class of 1978. Laura continued her education and in 1982 earned a Bachelor of Music Education from Northern Michigan University. His professional career included music teaching jobs at Clarkston, Manistique, Elgin, IL, and most recently, Aspen Ridge Elementary School (NICE Community Schools). Also, over the years, she has done a lot of substitute teaching.

Music has always been an integral part of Laura’s life: she enjoyed playing the piano, singing with her sisters, giving private music lessons in voice, piano and guitar, and leading/participate in church music ministry . She was a frequent piano accompanist and judge for school music festivals and was the accompanist for the Gitche Gumee Boys Choir in Marquette.

Laura was a devoted and faithful Christian who loved the Lord. She was an active member of CrossBridge Church in Ishpeming.

Family was at the center of Laura’s life, accompanied faithfully by her devoted husband for nearly thirty-eight years. She loved her whole family fiercely, especially her three daughters. Laura made an effort to attend all family gatherings. She especially enjoyed camping with her family and Copper Harbor was always a favorite destination. More recently, she has cherished time spent by the family-owned lake.

Scrapbooking was another of Laura’s favorite hobbies. Her daughters are lucky to have their precious childhood memories commemorated in such a beautiful format. Laura also liked a good yard sale or shopping at thrift stores; the search for unexpected treasures gives him great joy.

She is survived by her husband, Mark Woolard, of Ishpeming, whom she married on August 11, 1984 in Marquette, three daughters – Christina Woolard of Brooklyn, NY; Rachel (David) Eudy of Goose Creek, SC and Rebecca Woolard of Ishpeming; three sisters – Sharon (Terry) Green of Harvey; Amy (Jim) Minard and Virginia Hedberg, both of Ishpeming; brother – Scott (Kelly) Schaefer of McMillan; brother-in-law – Gary (Kathy) Woolard of Wyoming, MI; as well as several nieces and nephews.

Laura was predeceased by her parents – Raymond and Jacqueline Schaefer; one sister – Sue Schaefer; and one infant brother – Allan Schaefer; brothers-in-law – Gary Hedberg and Dale Woolard.

The family will welcome relatives and friends on Monday, February 14, 2022, from 3:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m., at CrossBridge Church in Ishpeming, with a funeral service to follow at 5:00 p.m., with Rev. Kevin McIlhany officiating. A dinner will be served at the church after the services. Burial will take place in the spring in West Lakefield Township. Graveyard.
