Summer Music School returns for in-person lessons | News, Sports, Jobs
After two years of virtual programming, Warren County Summer Music School is returning to in-person classes.
The 33rd season of SMS will take place weekday mornings from Monday, June 13 through Friday, July 1 at Beaty-Warren Middle School.
“The program is open to all students entering fifth grade in the fall of 2022 up to and including adults”, said director Denise Pearson.
Course offerings include a variety of skill levels for all band and orchestral instruments, “as well as guitar, bass guitar, ukulele, harp, recorder, bells, piano and pipe organ,” Pearson said. “Several singing lessons are offered, as well as visual arts lessons, several styles of dance, acting and yoga.”
Visual arts programming includes drawing, painting, sculpture, textile arts, craft instruments, photography and stop-motion animation.
“Additional music lessons include music theory, songwriting, GarageBand, instrument repair, rapping, music and animals, and music in other cultures,” Pearson said. “Performance opportunities include orchestra, jazz band, harp choir and show choir.”
“The wide range of courses allows beginners and advanced musicians and artists to develop and hone their skills in a stimulating and collaborative environment”, she says.
Course descriptions are available by visiting www.wcsms.org.
“Thanks to the generous support of the Pennsylvania Council of the Arts, the Community Foundation of Warren County, and private donations, the school is able to offer hands-on instruction for a reduced tuition fee of $125 total for three weeks. of five daily lessons”, Pearson said.
Registration is required – via www.wcsms.org – and class sizes are limited. “Students are scheduled on a first-come, first-served basis,” she says. “May 1 is the deadline to ensure that private lessons will be offered and to reserve a seat on the bus.”
Late registrations will be accepted until the first day of the SMS — June 13.
